The humble granny square is a great crochet project for beginners and super-versatile as you can use up scraps of yarn. In this project from How to Crochet by Mollie Makes, the squares are put together to make a granny-chic blanket. With over 100 granny squares to crochet, it’s a prefect project to make together.
For this blanket, designer Anita Mundt takes the mainstay of crochet, the traditional granny square, and overhauls it for a modern look. Traditionally, the granny square used scraps of yarn and featured random colour combinations. Here the colour combinations are partly fixed and partly random, and the choice of warm and bold shades makes this a vivid and eye-catching piece.
The project is suitable for beginners. You will work with techniques including making a square from a central chain and creating a crochet edge on a crochet fabric.
